CIC Member Receives Luciano Tomassini Award

At its annual conference this May in Barcelona the Latin American Studies Association presented CIC member Dr Sean Burges with the Luciano Tomassini Award for the best book in international relations. Burges’s book, Brazil in the World: The International Relations of a South American Giant, was lauded by the selection committee as being “a sophisticated and rigorous study based on solid empirical research from a diversity of sources…. It is, in short, a great book, with which we can better understand the development of Brazil's international insertion and foreign policy, and which also equips us well to study similar cases in the global South.” The Latin American Studies Association is the main international organization bringing together academics studying the region, most recently with over 6,000 attendees at the Barcelona conference.

In addition to serving as co-chair of the National Capital Branch’s Latin America and Caribbean Study Group, Burges is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations with the Australian National University and an Adjunct Research Professor with Carleton University. The book is most easily available in Canada through Amazon.ca in both printed and Kindle formats.
