On August 1, 2018, the CIC was awarded a contract by Canada's Department of National Defence to brief Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) on the existing structure and mechanisms in place to assist victims of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence to report, get medical, psychological and/or legal assistance in Mali, Africa, as well as highlight the gaps in assistance. CJOC leads most Canadian Armed Forces operations in Canada, North America, and around the world, including Operation Presence, the Canadian contribution to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali.

CIC Senior Fellow Corey Levine will conduct this briefing. From November 2016 – November 2017, Levine was the International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights and Gender Advisor to the Head of Mission for the European Union Military Training Mission in Mali. She has worked directly to train Malian soldiers on humanitarian law, human rights, gender issues, conflict-related sexual violence and victim assistance structures.

Government outreach and education is a core component of the CIC research program, with CIC fellows regularly appearing before various levels of government.
