The four articles in this issue of Behind the Headlines are based on the lectures in the BMO Financial Group/CIIA Distinguished Lecture Series 2006. The four lecturers discussed the remarkable growth of the Chinese economy, the much slower evolution of China’s political system, and the implications of these developments not only for the Chinese people but for the international community as a whole.
